Fractional CTO and CDO

Senior technology and digital leadership for boards, investors and established businesses, on a fractional basis and with the accountability of a full-time executive.

Roles

Fractional CTO, CDO and CIO

Commitment

Scaled to your needs, from a few days a month

Format

Retained, interim or project mandate

Who we work with

  • Boards and CEOs who need an experienced, independent voice on technology decisions
  • Private equity and investor-backed companies, from due diligence through to post-acquisition integration
  • Family offices and holding groups with technology spread across several businesses
  • Established and mid-market businesses preparing to scale, transform or sell
  • Organisations between technology leaders that need senior interim cover

The mandate

We take ownership of the areas a full-time CTO or CDO would, shaped around what your business needs most.

Strategy and roadmap

A technology strategy tied to business goals, and a roadmap the board can fund and track.

Board and investor reporting

Clear, regular reporting on progress, spend and risk, in language a board can act on.

Architecture and platforms

Sound decisions on systems, cloud, data and integration that hold up as the business grows.

Security, risk and compliance

Cyber security, resilience and regulatory obligations such as GDPR managed at leadership level.

Suppliers and contracts

Selection, negotiation and governance of technology partners, including RFIs and RFPs.

Team and succession

Building the right in-house team and, when the time comes, hiring your permanent leader.

Due diligence and M&A

Technology due diligence for investors and acquirers, and integration planning after the deal.

Budget and cost control

Visibility of technology spend, and removal of cost that doesn’t add value.

CTO or CDO?

Fractional CTO

Focused on the technology itself: architecture, platforms, engineering, infrastructure and security. Right when technology is core to your product or operations.

Fractional CDO

Focused on digital change across the business: customer experience, data, process automation and new digital services. Right when the priority is transformation.

Many organisations need a mix of both. We agree the mandate with you at the start and adjust it as priorities change.

How an engagement runs

1

Diagnose

In the first weeks we meet your leadership, review systems, suppliers, spend and risk, and give you a written assessment of where technology stands.

2

Plan

We agree a 90-day plan and a longer roadmap with the CEO and board, with clear priorities, budgets and measures of success.

3

Lead

We run the technology agenda: leadership meetings, supplier governance, delivery oversight and regular reporting to the board.

4

Transition

When the business is ready, we help recruit and onboard a permanent leader, or step down to an advisory role.

Ways to engage

Retained

An ongoing fractional role with an agreed number of days each month and a seat on your leadership team.

Interim

Near full-time cover for a defined period, for example while you recruit or through a critical programme.

Project mandate

A focused engagement with a clear outcome, such as technology due diligence, a platform selection or a transformation plan.

Why Bhava Tech

More than two decades of experience designing and delivering technology across hundreds of projects, from Malta to the Caribbean.

Common questions

How much of our time will you spend with us?

It depends on the mandate. Retained roles typically start at a few days a month and can scale up during busy periods. We agree the commitment in writing at the start.

How is this different from hiring a consultant?

A consultant advises and leaves. A fractional CTO or CDO is part of your leadership team, owns decisions and delivery, and is accountable for results over time.

Can you work with our existing IT team and suppliers?

Yes. Most engagements start with the team and partners you already have. We strengthen what works and replace only what doesn’t.

Do you work under confidentiality agreements?

Yes. We’re happy to sign an NDA before any detailed discussion, and routinely work with commercially sensitive information.

Where do you work?

We’re based in Malta and work with clients across Europe and beyond, combining remote work with time on site as the role requires.

Tell us what you’re trying to fix.

Start with a short, no-obligation call. You’ll come away with an honest view of your options, even if the answer is that you don’t need us.
